At Industrial Truck & Equipment ITEC, we can advise a customer of the difference between a ‘Domestic’ and an ‘Industrial’ Ladder and what should be used in their application.
An Industrial Ladder must have a minimum load rating of 120kg and be labelled that it is suitable for Industrial use. Similarly, a Domestic Ladder must have a minimum load rating of 100kg and be labelled that it is suitable for Domestic use. It is important that customers are aware that a Domestic ladder is NOT suitable for use in a workplace or in a commercial environment. Be aware that just because a ladder is labelled with a load rating, it does not mean that the ladder actually meets the necessary standard.
Domestic Ladder Comparison
For instance, a Little Jumbo Ladder is rated to 150kg but they actually meet the requirements of a Safety Step under DIN EN 14183, and do not meet Australian Standard AS/NZS 1892.1 for ladders. This is due to not meeting the requirements of the distance between stiles.
Brands such as Bailey have domestic ladder range rated to 100kg that are either listed as step stools or household ladders. This type of product meets the requirement of a domestic ladder.
